The Kaper Chart

One of the great motivators behind Girl Scouts is to teach young girls responsibility. One of the ways we do that at every meeting is to use a Kaper Chart (photo above). The responsibilities include:

1. Friendshiper - starts the friendship squeeze and the song at end of meeting.
2. Picture taker - documents meeting.
3. Craft starters - two girls help set up for the craft.
4. Game girl - starts, leads or explains game.
5. Snack starter - passes out snacks.
6. Drink starter - mixes and pours drinks. In addition, we reuse the same cups each meeting to cut down on waste as part of our "recycling" and "make the world a better place" patches - BONUS!
7. Pledge leader - leads our Girl Scout pledge.
8. Bell ringer and meeting starter - calls meeting to attention and rings bell to call order at other times.
9. Kaper Charter - changes Kaper chart after each meeting.
10. Promise leader - leads the promise (on my honor....) at the beginning of the meeting.

Our regular meeting go a little something like this:

Opening: Say Promise and Pledge.
Circle time: Sit in circle and discuss events or just share things. During our last meeting, each girl shared something nice about the girl to their right.
Snack
Activity
Games/songs
Closing - return to circle.

Please continue to expect the girls to do responsibilities at home and ask them what they are learning in Girl Scouts. Hopefully they have a lot to share!
